Edema along the optic tract: a useful MR finding for the diagnosis of craniopharyngiomas.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The pattern of edema caused by craniopharyngiomas and other common suprasellar masses could be useful for determining the differential diagnosis of lesions in this region. The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether the pattern of edema spread on MR images can be used in the diagnosis of craniopharyngiomas. METHODS The preoperative MR images in eight consecutive ...
متن کاملAcute hypopituitarism associated with periorbital swelling and cardiac dysfunction in a patient with pituitary tumor apoplexy: a case report
BACKGROUND Pituitary tumor apoplexy is a rare clinical syndrome caused by acute hemorrhage or infarction in a preexisting pituitary adenoma. It typically manifests as an acute episode of headache, visual disturbance, mental status changes, cranial nerve palsy, and endocrine pituitary dysfunction. However, not all patients present with classical symptoms, so it is pertinent to appreciate the cli...
متن کاملUnsuspected recurrent pituitary adenoma presenting as an orbital mass.
PURPOSE Orbital invasion of pituitary tumors is rare and usually accompanied by optic nerve head pallor and visual loss. We describe a case of unilateral massive orbital invasion by a recurrent pituitary tumor with preserved visual acuity and normal optic nerve appearance. METHODS Case report. RESULTS Progressive proptosis developed 15 years after transphenoidal removal of a pituitary tumor...

Background: The Pelger-Huet anomaly dominantly is a rare and benign inherited defect of terminal neutrophil differentiation. Although neutrophil migration may be minimally impaired, granulocytes function is otherwise normal association abnormalities such as ocular, musculoskeletal are reported very rare. Case: An eight year-old boy with good consciousness but severe muscular atrophia and diffic...
متن کاملMR imaging study of edema-like change along the optic tract in patients with pituitary region tumors.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Edema-like change along the optic tract commonly occurs in association with craniopharyngiomas. The aim of this study was to clarify whether it occurs in association with other common pituitary region tumors and to elucidate its mechanism as seen on MR images. METHODS Fifty patients with pituitary region tumors that were touching or compressing the optic pathway underwe...
متن کاملTSH-Secreting Pituitary Adenoma: Current Management and Review.
The neurosurgical literature contains little information about the current management of patients with thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)-secreting pituitary adenomas or about the usefulness of the somatostatin analogue octreotide in such cases. While TSH-secreting pituitary adenomas are rare, our review and illustrative case demonstrate the effectiveness of pretreating patients with octreotide ...
